A group of authentic Pirate re-enactors fired a series of salvos from a replica of a 17th century cannon at Blackgang Chine this weekend, making sure that the Jubilee weekend went with a bang!
Blackgang Chine celebrated the Queen's jubilee weekend in style with over 6,000 visitors coming to their Pirate party held over three days of the long weekend.
Though the dull weather made it difficult to create the Caribbean atmosphere, the live music from The Tea n' Biscuit Boys & JC & Angelina, the wonderful rhythm from Raw Samba and the sheer energy from Ryde Extreme helped to give Blackgang a tropical feel.
With local Island actors providing a range of good and bad pirate characters for children to meet, with hair braiding, face-painting and their newly built BBQ offering a range of outdoor food, Blackgang's new play attraction, Pirate Cove, was well and truly launched!
Staff fears that children would try to copy the unusual skills of Ian Brown, as he demonstrated the art of sword swallowing were unfounded and it was only the rain on Tuesday afternoon that put a dampener on holiday spirits!
